This budget and all financials can be reviewed by and SKT parent.  It is available online or by contacting us by email or leaving us a message at the school.  The school council receives a Parent Involvement Committee(PIC) grant each year for council to spend on activities that support or enhance parental involvement.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy Thanksgiving!  Hope all of you had a wonderful long weekend.  The SKT school council is thankful for all of the parents and staff who have joined council this year to help make SKT a wonderful school for your child(ren) to attend.

We understand that all families are quite busy and may not be able to commit to coming out to all of the council meetings, but there are other opportunities to get involved such as volunteering for specific events, like our upcoming Monster Mash, or providing feedback on any of our initiatives.  Our council meetings and all of our committees: social/volunteer, play structure, fundraising, communications and fun fair (starting in January 2014) are open to any parent/guardian that is interested in helping out.  Please contact us if you have any questions.

April Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy Easter! Spring is here and as promised last month, your school council has many fun activities planned for the next two and a half months before the summer break. These activities include a movie at the school, a private screening of Rio2, an afternoon of bowling, dinner at Boston Pizza and of course Fun Fair! We understand that all families will not be able to participate in all of our activities, but it would be great to see you at one of these community building activities.

These activities are not only a chance for the students (and their families) to get together outside of school but they help council raise funds that help the school. Some of the items that we have recently purchased for the school and students include the maple taffy for the winter carnival, a push cart used at pizza days, the Shrove Tuesday pancakes and some of the items that the teachers purchase to supplement classroom needs.

As always, we can’t do this without your help, if you think you can help out in any way with any of our events/initiatives, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Proposed Bell Time and Walk Zone Changes

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) is proposing a few changes to our school bell times and walk zones.  It has been proposed that our school start time be changed to 9:15, and our finish time be changed to 3:45.  Additionally, OSTA is proposing a new walking zone for Kindergarten students and Grade 1 to 6 students.  To see the proposed walking zones, please see the proposed Kindergarten Walk Zone Map and the proposed Grade 1 to 6  Walk Zone Map for our school.

There are 2 ways to provide feedback to OSTA about the proposed changes:
  1. OSTA invites parents/guardians and stakeholders to participate in consultation meetings regarding proposed bell time changes and the impacts of hazard zones and walk-paths. The meeting where the proposed changes for St. Kateri Tekakwitha will be discussed will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Peter High School.
  2. You can also submit your comments by email to OSTA's special feedback email accountfeedback@ottawaschoolbus.ca The best way to ensure clear feedback OSTA can use to look for alternate solutions, or to address your needs, is as follows: 1. Put the full school name in the subject line of your email, 2. In the comment area, put your full name, your child's full name, address and contact information in case we need some clarification. 3. Make sure your comments are detailed and demonstrate a tangible or justifiable reason why the proposed change CANNOT be made. For example, rather than stating “I can’t make my bus”, please state, “I take bus route number XX at X time in order to get to work for X time. This bell time change means I can’t get to work until XX time and that’s too late for my employer”.
For more information, please click here to see a newsletter created by OSTA specifically for our school.
